Sexy Snippets - Behind The Makeup

Hello and welcome back to another Sexy Snippets.

What a week it has been! Only four days this week, due to the Bank Holiday here, but my goodness, it was long. Behind The Makeup released on Tuesday, so it has been non stop but I have loved every bit of it.

Anyway, back to the snippets, with this weeks being taken from Behind The Makeup. This is the last night of Beth's tour. The last night that Gareth will be her body guard.

“What about you? Last night doing this before you return to detective. Are you going to miss it?”

Gareth’s chuckle made her turn and look at him. “Well, I think it might be a little safer being a detective,” he teased.

Beth didn’t respond. She felt her cheeks heat up and turned her gaze to the floor.
“Hey, what’s up?” Gareth said as he closed the gap between them and placed a hand on each of her shoulders.

I hope you have enjoyed the snippets from Behind The Makeup. I'll be back nest week with something from my current WIP. But for now, Ill leave you with all the other talented authors and their snippets. You can find them here:

Flash Fiction Friday - Ride Home

Hello and welcome back to Flash Fiction Friday.  This is where we are given a picture of inspiration and have to write about it in no more than 100 words.  This is the picture we were given:

The low grumble of an engine vibrated in my chest. I knew the sound of his bike anywhere. Against my sensibility I turned around slowly to see Greg astride his bike, wearing his trademark red bandana. “You still pissed at me baby?”

I looked him in the eyes and folded my arms across my chest.

His deep chuckle sent tingles straight to my core and I knew right then he was going to win.

“We can waist time arguing over semantics, but either way, you know you’re going to let me ride you all the way home.”

I was gone.

Hope you liked my Flash. Don’t forget to stop by all the other writers taking part today. You can find them here:

Thursday Tasters - Behind The Makeup

Hello and welcome back to Thursday Tasters.  It has been one seriously busy week here. We took the J’s camping for the long weekend and then it has been non stop promo all the way for my latest release, Behind The Makeup.

So I thought it was only fair that this week I give you a little snippet from this book.

“Let me,” he said, unsure of the right words. He wanted to tell her how much she meant to him, but at the same time he didn’t want to scare her away. Beth looked directly into his eyes. She held her stare for a moment more, before her body relaxed underneath him and she stopped trying to roll him over onto his back. Gareth leaned over her and kissed down her neck, his hands working her T-shirt free from the waist line of her jeans. He pulled the top up her body, and his hand glided over her silky smooth skin and up to the mound of her breast.

Gareth prised his fingers between the cotton fabric and her flesh, as his hands cupped her fullness and he stroked her proud nipple with his thumb. She took a sharp intake of breath and arched her back off the bed. He could see the goose bumps prickle on her arm as he massaged her breast, revelling in the way her body responded to his touch. With a keen mind to have her naked, he stripped her of her clothes completely, discarding them on the floor, along with his own.

He lay down on his side and pulled Beth against him, so they were chest to chest. Her hand slid up and down his back, her nails applying pressure and sent sizzling heat straight to his crotch. Beth wriggled against him, teasing him. Before she could take any control, he pulled back and shuffled down the bed so he was eye level with her belly button. He took in a deep breath, sealed his lips against her skin and blew out.

The sound of her laughter rang through his ears. She pulled her knees up instinctively and it connected with his chin.

Cherie Nicholls - Wind Born

Hello again and boy do I have a treat for you! Today I am leaving you in the amazingly talented arms of Cherie Nicholls and her #outnow  Wind Born.

Before I hand over, I wanted to share an interview I had with Cherie.

Q: What was it that gave you inspiration for this story?

A: Everyone knows I love a shifter but outside of my book Property Lines, I’ve not really played with witches. What can be more exciting than a powerful elemental witch with a white lion for a best friend? I really enjoyed writing it.

Q: Can you give a brief explanation as to what the story is about?

A: It’s about Aura, the air elemental and her best friend Luka the white lion and their relationship. Luka is firmly stuck in the best friend zone. Or as he puts it, is in fact King of the Best Friend Zone.

Q: Who is your fav character and why?

A: I love them both. Which is strange cause I usually pick one over the other, but in this book I actually identify with both.

Q: Do you have a favourite part in the story, other than the happy ending?

A: Yeah, everytime they argue, which they do a lot for best friends. They can be quite creative with their putdowns.

Q: If you had to choose between pizza and Nandos, which would you pick?

A: Pizza. God invented pepperoni for a reason… to make pizza great!

Now you know here a little more, lets get back to Wind Born.

Amazing cover right? I'll let Cherie tell you more...

Thank you for having me!

Ok this is my book, Wind Born and it’s been a little bit of a labor of love. Those who know me, know that I’m not always able to dedicate the time I’d like to writing. Wind Born has taken me over a year to write, seriously.

But this annoying Air Element just wouldn’t leave me alone, so I was forced to write her story. Man when you’re a High Priestess you sure do expect everyone to do as you say… rude!

Let me introduce you to Aura and her best friend, Luka.

Blurb:

Luka Barend is an alpha lion shifter, member of the Shifter Council, teacher, and big brother. He's also stuck firmly in the “friend zone.” In point of fact he is King of the Best Friend zone. Sometimes it really sucks to be him.

Aura Vietor is a High Priestess, an air elemental witch, and a woman who really, really wants Luka to realize that his best friend is actually a woman, with needs. Many, many dirty needs. Stupid blind lion shifter!

Excerpt:

Luka lay facedown on his bed and wondered, not for the first time, what he could’ve done in a previous life to be cursed with a family like this.

Granted, what with them all being orphaned at young ages and ending up in children’s homes, he’d not had much choice. But still he must’ve really pissed off a couple of gods in a previous life if this crazy menagerie was his punishment.

“So I said to her, ‛Baby, if you’re impressed now, you should see what I can do with it.’ And let me tell you, she was really impressed.”

He looked up at one of his younger brothers and glared. In nature, lions and wolves didn’t mix. Sadly, that wasn’t the case here. He was a lion shifter, and Nate—well, Nate was a pain-in-the-ass wolf-coyote shifter. Another perk of being in an adopted, mixed breed family.

“Is there a reason you’re in my house?”

“Sure.”

He waited, but Nate didn’t seem to want to offer more.

“Nate, it’s been a long day. I’ve been in a council meeting for the last five hours. Tell me why you’re here before I shift and bite your tiny little wolf head off.”

“Seriously, bro, since you made the council, your fun meter has dropped, like, twenty percent.”

“Nathaniel!”

“Geez, chill. I’m here because Aura was looking for you. Something about a ritual and the lake. If she needs a sex sacrifice, I’m totally up for that.”

Luka dropped his head back to the bed and groaned.

“Please tell me you didn’t offer her your services.”

“I thought about it, and then I remembered the last time I kindly offered my time and how it took a month for the green color to fade from my fur.”

“Smart move. I’ll give her a call. Now get out.”

“I’m crashing here tonight,” Nate threw over his shoulder as he headed for the door.

“You have your own place.”

“Yeah, but your place is closer. I mean I’m literally already standing in it. So, win.”

He didn’t argue as Nate closed the door. It was true he did have his own place, but more often than not, Luka would walk into the kitchen to find one or more of his siblings there.

He was sure some psychologists would say it had to do with their childhoods. How losing their parents at such young ages had affected them. Now they would cling together, needing each other’s presence to feel secure and connected.

Personally, he thought that was all crap and they just liked eating him out of house and home.

With a resigned sigh, he rolled onto his back and grabbed his phone off the bedside table.

He punched the quick-dial number and waited for the call to be answered. It didn’t matter that it was near midnight. There wasn’t a worry that he’d wake up the person at the other end. Aura was a night owl, something he’d learned as a kid.

“About goddamn time, freak,” was the greeting he received. As tired as he was, he couldn’t help smiling.

“Sorry if I wasn’t waiting by the phone for your call, hag.”

“What were you doing? Off licking your own ass?”

“No, I was with the council planning our witch hunt.”

“Yeah, like you’d have any chance against us.”

“Us? Who said anything about the others? Nope, we’re just planning on hunting whining air elemental witches.”

“Flea-ridden alley cat.”

“Reject from The Wizard of Oz.

There was silence on the other end for a second before he heard the snorted laugh.

The sound warmed his heart. Aura might be an air elemental witch, a rare breed of witch to say the least. She might even be one of the most powerful magical women in the world. But first and foremost, she was his best friend. And wasn’t that all sorts of fun. Somewhere in their teen years he’d landed not only in the friend zone, but he was in point of fact, king of the best-friend zone. Yay him.

“So what did that boring group of dried up has-beens have to say this time?”

“That group of has-beens is the authority around here, and I happen to be a member, in case you’ve forgotten.”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. I told you when they asked you to join that you’d be at least nine hundred years too young. But no, you wouldn’t listen. So deal with it, kitten.”

“No, please, Aura. You’re drowning me with your admiration.”

“Bite me.”

“Only if you ask me nice.”

He heard her breathy laugh come down the line again and willed his body not to react. He’d have more chance swimming up a waterfall.

“So, I hear you were looking for me,” he said, and tried hard to distract his body and the part of him that was getting hard at the thought of her luscious mouth on it.

“Sure was. The full moon is coming.”

“And? Happens all the time.”

“Yes, I know that, o wise one. But this one is different. It’s a blood moon. Rare and very powerful. I need to have a ceremony down at the lake. It’s going to happen, but I figured I should get your approval first, what with you being all council-like now. That way the boring old farts can’t shut me down.”

“You ask so nicely too.”

“You want nice? Okay, fine.” He closed his eyes. He knew what was coming and so did his body. “Please, Luka. Oh, oh, oh, God, please, Luka,” she panted down the line. “I promise to be a good girl, really good…oh, mmm, so good.”

He swallowed hard and forced out a laugh. “You’re getting better at that.”

“I should be. Practice does make perfect.”

That dragged a silent snarl from him. The thought of another man’s hands on what he’d always considered his had his lion pawing to get out.

“Fine, have your little magic show at the lake. But don’t poison the lake, don’t burn anything down, and, Aura, if you really must be naked, at least put up a border spell so I don’t find a group of teenagers all standing there watching you and your coven.”

“Man, Nate was right—you really have lost your fun side. Okay, fine, Mr. Prude. I’ll make sure the poor innocent boys are shielded from our perfection. I guess I shouldn’t really ruin them for all the other women.”

“I appreciate it. Now go away. I have sleeping to do, and your cackle grates on my last nerve.”

“Yeah, love you too, twinkle.”

He hung up, dropped the phone back onto the table, and lay back down.

Luka stared up at the ceiling and wondered again if the gods were messing with him.

Release Day - Behind The Makeup

Hello and welcome to  Release day for Behind The Makeup. It’s so nice of you to drop by and celebrate with me.

I’m here to talk about my new release, Behind The Makeup, which is out TODAY. I have been so excited about this story. It has been a thrill for me to see how the story and characters all evolved from a simple makeup advertisement on T.V. Well, they do say inspiration can strike at any time.

So this is the cover:

Blurb:

Elizabeth Rhey is a world class singer who has come home to North West London to complete the final dates of her last tour. Then her way word brother gets in trouble with the police again, and she is about ready to wash her hands of him. Only he’s dead. She finds herself caught up in a police investigation, where her past secrets catch up with her.

Gareth Buchanan is Beth’s bodyguard. It wasn’t his chosen career, just one he landed on after taking a break from the police force. When Beth’s brother is killed and the investigation around his death unravels, he finds himself getting very close to Beth. With a desperate need to protect her, Gareth is forced to confront is own ghost.

Both their lives are turned upside down as they find out who is behind her brother’s death. Can they face their past to find peace for their future?

Chapter One

PC Duncan Smith hung onto the handle bar as his partner expertly navigated the patrol car down the dark winding roads toward the address they had been given. The blue flashing light of the siren intermittently lit the way, before they were plunged back into darkness, relying on their full beamed front lights to guide their way. Usually they would do the blues and two’s (as they were more popularly known) on the way to a suspected burglary. On this occasion however, the call had come from an occupant inside the house, so for their safety, they needed to get there urgently but quietly.

“Hold up, what’s that?” PC Paul Newman asked from the driver’s seat. His gaze brought Smith’s attention to fast-moving shadows up ahead. As they neared the house they were looking for, two white males dashed out in front of them and scrambled into a waiting red hatch back car. They were dressed in dark clothing and both had their arms full, carrying obscure objects, along with a sports bag. The car sped off up the road before the last person had the chance to close the back passenger door.

“I’ll call it in,” Smith said, reading his partner’s mind. “Control, this is Quebec Delta four nine two, we are in pursuit of what we believe to be the intruders of Belleview Road. The roads are dry and light with traffic. Do we have permission to proceed?”

“Quebec Delta four nine two, you have permission to proceed.”

Newman flicked on the siren and started to give chase to the getaway car.

“We are in pursuit of a red Vauxhall Corsa, registration Lima Echo 04 Foxtrot, Hotel Lima. Current speed forty-seven miles per hour in a forty speed zone.” Smith continued to give the control room details of which roads they were traveling down and the speeds both cars were driving at. It was important to give as much detail to the driving conditions of both vehicles, for both safety and accountability, should anything go wrong. Sadly, in his experience, it usually ended up with the failing to stop car causing an accident.

“He’s heading out onto the North Circular.” Newman stated, as he predicted where the car was going to head next. Duncan swallowed down the fear of his experience. The North Circular was a busy road. Though this time of night traffic would be light, it was still used as it is the main circular road to get from one side of London to the next. Some of the corners are tight, and travelling at excessive speeds… Smith tried not to think about it as they carried on driving at a safe distance down the Harrow Road toward Wembley. True to Newman’s prediction, the Corsa jumped through the red lights, and turned left down onto the North Circular toward the A40.

Visibility was much better due to the street lights that lit up the road ahead. Their driving speed was now in excess of eighty miles an hour at times, with hard breaking around some of the tight turns the road offered. The car in front swerved across two lanes and slammed on the breaks to avoid hitting another car. Smith pushed his feet down on the foot-well of the car and leaned back in his chair as if he was willing the car to stop. Fortunately it was a near miss. “This is going to end in tears,” Smith said out loud to Newman.

Newman backed off from the red car to put more stopping distance between them, hoping it would encourage them to reduce their speed, as the pressure to get away would be reduced. He drove behind the Corsa in the left hand lane, anticipating them to exit, but the red car suddenly sped up and drifted across the lanes to the right side.

“The A40 is up next.” Newman stated his prediction once again so that PC Smith could relate back to control. They could see the traffic lights ahead that indicated the crossroads of the North Circular and the A40. They were red. Both officers looked at each other as Newman instinctively slowed his car. The red Corsa carried on at high speed with no intention of stopping for the red lights. There were a few cars drifting past, but not few enough. The sounds of horns and tires screeching were enough to chill any warm-blooded animal. Both Smith and Newman had no option but to watch and report back to control, as the red car floored it through the red lights. Cars traveling from the left swerved to avoid the Corsa. Amazingly, the red car made it through the junction without getting hit. None of the other cars had collided with each other. But it wasn’t over. Newman increased his speed to follow the red car once more as he meandered his way through the now stationary cars on the junction.

“He’s lost it,” Newman said as they watched the red car veer left and right as the driver fought to control the car. The driver pulled the car off to the left much too quickly, causing the Corsa to skid sideways across three lanes of traffic, up onto the bank and wrap itself around a tree.

“Control, we have an RTC on North Circular Road Southbound just after A40 junction,” Smith said as he spoke into his radio. He hopped out of the car just before Newman had brought it to a complete stop.

Newman pulled the hand break up with such force, you could hear the gear mechanism grind together and then jumped out of the car to follow Smith.

Smith reached the back of the red car and could hear soft moans from the back passenger side. As he opened the door, a young man was slouched across the back seat, his head was oozing a crimson river and he wasn’t conscious. Smith felt for a pulse, it was faint. Newman was busy assessing the front passenger so he made his way to the driver.

The front of the red Corsa was crumpled, steam from what he presumed to be the radiator rose into the night sky. Smoke from the air bags joined the steam as they danced their vapour in the street light rays.  The driver hung half out of the windscreen, his head at an awkward angle. Smith reached for a pulse, already knowing there wouldn’t be one.

“Control, this is Quebec Delta four nine two. We have one unconscious male with a head injury,” He looked over to Newman for the condition of the front passenger. Newman just shook his head. “And two fatalities.”

Sexy Snippets - Behind The Makeup

Hello and welcome back to Sexy Snippets.

This is where we post seven sentences of sexiness for your pleasure. This week I am choosing another snippet from my upcoming release Behind The Makeup. So here goes:

“Oh god,” Beth cried out. Heat soared through her body at such a high temperature, she thought she might combust. In an attempt to slow him down before she came too quickly, Beth wrapped her leg around his waist, to give her a little more control over how fast and hard he pushed into her. With her hips raised high on pillows, he was gliding into her with such ease, he filled her completely, his head touching that fulfilling spot every time he entered her and threatened to send her right over the edge.
Gareth leaned over her, so their bodies touched. He kept one elbow on the bed, whilst the other caressed her breast. He nipped at her throat and sent tingles down to her now hard nipples.

I hope you enjoyed the snippet and feel free to leave a comment, or share the link.  Don't forget to check out all the other authors taking part today. You can find them all here:

Flash Fiction Friday - Home

Hello and welcome to Flash Fiction Friday. This is where a group of writers are given a picture and we have to write 100 words relating to that picture. No more, no less. So here goes with my 100.

He led me blindfolded through the grass. The long blades tickled my ankles with every step we made. My hands interlocked with his at either side of me as I leaned back against his chest, his lips soft and light on my neck as his warm breath on my skin sent shivers of awakening down my spine.

"I can't wait for you to see," he whispered.

“See what?” I asked through giggles.

“You’ll see,” He said as stopped walking. His hands left mine to untie the knot at the back of the scarf and let it fall.

“Our new home.”

There you go, 100 words exactly.
