Bella’s Bio

As a youngster, Bella Settarra used to dream of becoming an author, and wrote many tales, poems and letters. 

However, as she grew up she wasn’t able to write so much, as exams, work and family overtook hobbies such as writing, so it looked as though her stories were to become a thing of the past.  That was until she was very ill in March 2013, after undergoing surgery related to cancer.  While lying in a hospital bed contemplating her life, she realized that her biggest regret was never fulfilling her dream of becoming a published author.  Determined to succeed and make her family – as well as herself – proud, she resolved to write a publishable book within the next twelve months. 

In November 2013 her first novel, Last of the Sirens, was published, and went on to become the first of a six-part serial.

Just a month later, fate dealt her another bad hand when she was forced to leave her day job as she could no longer cope with the ever-increasing hours she was expected to work while struggling with ill health.  Writing became her life-line, turning a pleasurable hobby into a fulfilling career. 

Now able to once-again enjoy life, she finds that writing gives her the freedom to work when she is able and rest when she is not.  It encourages her dreams and nurtures her ambitions.  She also has more time for her family, and for her love of driving around the English countryside in her open-top car, listening to country music.

Bella’s imagination knows no bounds, and she has gone from writing a mythical series, Sirens and Sailors, to writing about cowboys and a current work in progress about a group of restaurant staff.  Her novels include MM, MF, MFM and MMF as well as various elements of BDSM, but, most importantly, they are about love.

 ‘Ménage on Moone Mountain’ is the first in a series called ‘The Men of Moone Mountain’, which is a total change from my last series ‘Sirens and Sailors’.  It is also being published by a different publisher, Etopia Press, whereas Siren Publishing produced ‘Sirens and Sailors’.  This has made it a much different book, as different editors have much different ideas about what works and what doesn’t and publishers have their own ‘house rules’, e.g. Siren Publishing do not use the semi-colon, and anything written in italics is internal thought and therefore written in the first person, whereas Etopia are the total opposite.

The reason ‘Sirens and Sailors’ came about was that I was inspired by the brief given to authors at my first conference, who were instructed to write an erotic story centred around the sea.  After writing the six-book serial I decided to write something more contemporary, and, as I love reading Cowboy Romance I really wanted to try writing some.  As a Brit, writing about something so different from our culture required a lot of research, as I was so worried about getting it wrong.  I was lucky enough to have some American author friends who helped me find what I was looking for to make the story authentic and plausible (I hope). Mary Yakovets  helped me immensely, pointing me in the right direction for my research and helping me out with certain phrases.  My editors at Etopia Press were also invaluable, as they were able to pick out any Englishisms which had snuck into my work, too.

As an author we are always evolving and (hopefully) improving.  Each book should be better than the last in order for us to grow.  I wrote about ménage relationships in both ‘Ménage of the Siren’ and also in ‘Sacrifices of the Siren’, so I had completed some research on the subject, which I found fascinating.  It was also such fun to write that I decided that my first Cowboy Romance would also be a ménage.  In both of the Sirens and Sailors books, the ménage was M/F/M so I decided to try my hand at writing a M/M/F ménage this time.  I had already written some M/M scenes in ‘Secrets of the Siren’, so had a little experience in this field, and decided to pursue this by making my two heroes in ‘Menage on Moone Mountain’ bi-sexual.

The next book in the ‘Men of Moone Mountain’ series is a Manlove story, and I plan for the third to be another ménage.  My idea was to make the fictional Moone Mountain the sort of place where everyone was able to live the way they wanted to, be they gay, bisexual, polyamorous or whatever.

For lovers of the more conventional Cowboy Romances I have also begun a series with Siren Publishing called ‘Midnight in Montana’ with the first book, ‘Dallas at Midnight’, due for release on 30^th September.  Although this book is a M/F romance, I wouldn’t rule out making a subsequent story in the series a ménage book, although in Midnight in Montana this would be an exceptional relationship whereas on Moone Mountain it would be the norm.
