Thursday Tasters - Day Off

Hello everyone, thank so much for stopping by today. I have to say, it has been a little manic at my house over the last week. We are having our bathroom re decorated, and in between all the crashing, banging, doors being left open and freezing, two children off sick, entertaining a toddler confined to one room, the bathroom is nearly finished *happy dance*

Like I said, one manic week lol

Anyway, today is Thursday Taster, where I showcase no more than 400 words of my work. It can be something that has been published, or something I am currently working on. Last week I introduced you to, Di, from my current WIP day off.

This week I will treat you to a little bit more, so picking up from where we left off:

He answered after the first ring. “Di, where are you? We have a meeting in thirty five minutes. You know how I like to over the schedule with you beforehand. Why are.” The sound of his demanding voice added more rage to her already angered state, so she cut him off. A first for her.

“Matt, I’m not coming in today.”

There was silence for a moment. Di began to second guess her actions as guilt seemed to move in and take over the anger.

“What do you mean you’re not coming in today?”

His voice was full of shock. After working with him for over five years, Di knew when he was acting, and when he was being sincere. A lump of regret formed in her throat. She knew she couldn’t go back on her statement. “I’m taking the day off. I’m sick.”

“You don’t sound sick to me.”

He had a point. Her mind went into over drive as she tried to find an excuse. Out of the corner of her eye she saw her sanitary pads on the dressing table.

“I’ve got cramps.”

“You’ve got what?”

“Cramps. You know periods.”

“You’ve never had cramps before.”

Bloody cheek. She had cramps alright, she just dosed herself up to meet his demands. Not anymore. “I always have cramps Matt, I usually dose myself up. This month is far too heavy.”

“Heavy?”

Now he was just irritating her. “Yes Matt, Heavy, lots of blood.”

“Oh Di really. Did you have to be that graphic? Take the bloody day off. Take two. Don’t come back until you’re all clear.”

I hope you enjoyed this short taster. Don't forget to stop by and see all the other writers taking part today. You can find them all here

That's it for this week. Until next time, take care.

  2. That was a good excuse with short notice. Will she feel guilty for lying though? What's she doing next? And will Matt learn why she lied?

  4. What I want to know is why she wants the day off? She feels fine and is committed...but to what? Very interesting taster and I am already eager for more. xo
